Common Sense Marketing

Is there such a thing as common sense marketing?

Have you ever wondered how many ways you can market?
There is
direct marketing
email marketing
social media marketing
network marketing
but have you ever  thought about
common sense marketing?
Well I had a chance to think about this form of marketing when I was talking to an Adlandpro member (BJ Williams)  asking for a bit of help as I was having a problem thinking of something to write about ( it happens at times)
Because I used the common sense marketing approach (unwittingly) I  had asked BJ Williams to give me some ideas to write about and then I fine tuned it to if you were wanting an answer to a marketing question what would it be?

Email Marketing Resources

Email Marketing resources for the affiliate marketer.

Regardless of whether you are running a small business or as an affiliate marketer creating an affiliate business, email is still a very viable and needed method for marketing your products and services.
Unfortunately, email marketing is also complicated as you have to consider such things as
~ What is the right message you want to send
~ Does the subject line convey the right message that people will want to know more
~ How are you creating an imagery for your readers?Email marketing is not just about the words you use but the imagery you are conveying –
The issue of creating, maintaining and building your lists and lets not forget that you need to measure the outcome of any email you send!
Everything is important and needs to come together so that your customer or subscriber will receive the email at the proper time!
The subscriber will open the email!
The subscriber will receive a good call to action!
(with the “ultimate goal” of the customer buying from you and not the bloke down the street!)
To clarify the last point – while the ultimate goal is for the customer to buy from you, you should never confuse the email with a landing page and many people do just that.
To keep it simple or using the K.I.S.S principle, your email copy is about getting people to click on your offering ( or selling the click) the landing page is about selling the product or service.

Subject Line

Subject Line: Why’s He Got a Turnip in his Pipe?

By Dave Cottrell
Subject line – Why’s He Got a Turnip in his Pipe? Did that make you a bit curious? If you got that subject line in your email, would you open it? Could you resist opening it? Good!

Dr. Suess is very familiar to many of us. If you are under a hundred years old and you have children or grandchildren, you probably read books to them written by Dr. Suess. “The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Go, Dog, Go,” are just a few of the familiar titles. How does Dr. Suess help you in getting people’s attention?
Copy writing is a skill that can make all the difference between making a sale or not, but unless you get people’s attention, first, the best copy in the world is just not going to get read.
Dr. Suess, used to do things like walking onto a bus “smoking” a pipe with a turnip in it. People would come up to him and ask him why he was smoking a pipe with a turnip in it! His answer was simple. “So that people will ask me why I have a turnip in my pipe!”
What a great way to start a conversation!!
This is what we’re all trying to do when we create a headline, an email subject line, a tweet or a share on FB and any other social media we use.

Take the Marketing Challenge

Take the Marketing Challenge, if you dare!

by Dave Cottrell

Take the marketing challenge;  it could change your life.

I have a challenge for you that I think the majority of people trying to make money online should really take me up on.  I’ll tell you more about that in a minute.
First, let me get this off my chest…
Once again, I open my mail and see yet another program being promoted by fiends - I mean “friends” from various popular social media communities who will probably NEVER make a thin dime with it, but who WILL pay money out of their pockets to the parent company, WILL put money into the pockets of someone in their upline, and WILL end up being disillusioned once again about network marketing in general.
Yes, I am speaking of yet another powerline opportunity, where all you have to do is join and you will make an unbelievable fortune with no work and no money ever… Right after you first buy this nice bridge I have for sale…

Success Isn’t Everything

Success isn’t everything, and in fact, it only happens for a mere moment in time; then it’s gone, forever. If it’s the only thing you live for, your life is not going to be all it can be.
If you go to any sales training seminar, you’ll hear over and over again that you have to set goals, that you have to have a success-driven attitude.
You hear that success is everything. You need to concentrate completely on reaching your goal. Nothing can be allowed to get in the way: Not family. Not friends. Not sleep. Not recreation. Not health….
What a foolish way to live! If you give up all these to reach your goal, in other words, to win, you won’t have much

QZZR and the marketing Quiz

A Marketing quiz using Qzzr

Is this a blog post about a new tool or resharing a marketing quiz?
I guess its a little bit of both to be honest.
On Monday June I had created a blog post titled “A Marketing quiz” and although the questions being asked were good ( or I think they were good lol), the fact is this quiz was not interactive.
Chuck Bartok, mentioned this fact (thank you Chuck) and he was right to do so.
As you can see at the bottom of this post I have corrected the issue and have redone the quiz so that is it now interactive.
The fact is that when you are a blogger or a marketer, finding ways and means to create interest and exposure is important and anything that will hold a readers interest  and want to know more is an important part of creating a good marketing strategy.

SlideShare Tips

SlideShare tips learned from my mistakes

Have you ever noticed that when it comes to marketing or social marketing, there is always that learning curve when you are doing new things and I have noticed that while many people will say to do this or that, it takes you actually doing the action and more often than not learning from the many mistakes that you will make.
I remember doing my first Slideshare and to be very honest I had no clue what I was doing, I just had read that this was a good thing to do if you wanted to be noticed or seen and that everyone was doing it. Who was I to argue with such logic :-)

Self-Promotion tips

This is what everyone keeps hearing by the way and its no wonder so many people are always confused about marketing especially when on social media!
While many may argue that there is a fine line between the act of self- promotion and promoting oneself on social media the fact is there is ( at least to me) a difference.
When I think about a person who is self promoting I have this imagery of a person going around saying..look at me, I’m so good and talking only about what they are doing or have done and really not giving a damn about anyone else – other than themselves. Kind of sad when I think about it!
Promoting yourself ( notice the difference?) is different in terms of what you are doing and why you are doing it.

Drip marketing and Social Marketing

A great example is posting an educational or information post on a blog. When you do that you are inviting people to respond to the author and then they share with others – that is drip marketing that is interactive!
It actually is pretty exciting when you think about it and here is a post that I think will give you an even beter idea on how to do drip marketing through social media.

Just a question for you  - Do you agree that it takes 29 times for a person to view a “marketing message” before you get a customer?  That number seems rather high to me, so let me know your experiences and why you agree or disagree?

Can You hear me now? A marketing strategy

The “Can you hear me now” was one of the greatest commercials from verizon that had people talking and even joking about “listening”. Many people have even written about this one commercial in terms of content creation, but for me when I see this commercial, I see the issues that business owners and affiliate marketers have and that is getting people to pay attention to their business or product.

I was talking to a good friend the other day about business strategies and he made a point that had an impact on me. What he said was “when it comes to any kind of business, if people can’t find you then you will have very little luck in getting people to buy your products.” Of course I already knew this, but for some reason the commercial for Verizon and the wording “Can you hear me now” kept going through my mind.

Affiliate Marketing Myths

When I first came online and it seems so long ago, I thought like many people that I could just make money by becoming an affiliate marketer. Of course I had no idea what I was doing, I didn’t understand any of the terminology and I got burned very badly by the darn “schemes” that I got myself into.  To make matters worse I had no understanding of what affiliate marketing was and kept being drawn to MLM style programs…how bad is that?  Affiliate marketing by the way  is not MLM ( see I did finally learn lol) but in some ways the strategies used are very similar and for those who are new to marketing, it can be hard to distinguish between the two!
